Cleaned Out the Closet
BestOutfitForMen asks:
Hey, I am really bad with clothes… can you post some resources as to learn how to dress well? I dont even know whats the right fit for Tshirt and jeans
Now is a great time for that question, because in addition to tweaking my look, I’ve cleaned out my closet, performing an almost total overhaul of my wardrobe.
At first it was a slow transition. I came out of undergrad like most guys, buying those stripped button downs and graphic T’s. I mean, it was what everyone else was wearing. But after a while I started to pick up more T’s and V necks without those weird tribal designs and words like “honor” and “loyalty” scribbled all over them. Chalk it up to peer influence.
But I really made the decision to invest in new clothes when I went to a job interview a few months ago. I was in an off-the-rack suit, with a book bag. It hit me that I was finally leaving the revolving door of higher education, and heading back into the real world. It was about time that I looked like I belonged. And the first step? Get rid of that book bag and pick up what men are using these days: the satchel.
Recently, I did what every guy needs to do every now in then: go through all your clothes and decide what can stay, and what must go. I donated bags and bags of button downs, graphic T’s, and pretty much everything else with designs and labels that you can get from Express and Guess. I even threw in some old pairs of jeans that were a bit too baggy.
Of course buying a bunch of new clothes can get super expensive. So I saved my shopping for that last holiday we had, and went to Macy’s. Everything was pretty much on sale, plus additional 25% off sales of everything for no reason except Macy’s does it like that. I grabbed some things that are a little tighter fitting than what my body can take, because I still have some heft to lose. Clothes for going out and for work.
Back to BestOutfitForMen’s question: how did I decide what I wanted? I did some research. A lot of research. Which everyone can do while at work. That’s what I did to find out what I wanted. Everything from socks to jeans, to shirts. As for jeans, my loyal readers should already have an idea of how they want to look. Do you want to keep it gangsta? Rock them baggy below your knees with a 15X tall T. Do you want to look like a hipster douche? Grab a size zero off the girl’s rack in the tween section.
For me, mine just fit.
All jokes aside, I’ve found a few websites to share, that should help you all look your best, whether for work or for play. And often they will let you know of good deals at your favorite stores. Enjoy.

I’ve been thinking about doing a closet cleanup as well, I have way too many clothes and stuff that I never wear, plus I think I should go shopping for some clothes.
Thanks for those links, loving The Style Blogger right now!
Yeah, I’m right behind ya. Got too many old piece-of-shit clothes that make me feel like crap when I look at them. Time to throw them in a clothing recycling bin at my nearest gas station.
Especially the X-large T-shirts that drag on my body and make me look like a retard.
Don’t forget about http://www.kinowear.com
That’s where I learned how to figure out if clothes fit properly and about different cuts fitting different body types and all that.
hey, thx for the help those links and the kinowear link are very helpfull
Thanks for the tip, also do u shop weekend clothes at Macys? They seem too bland at the same time I dont want tons of graphics or designs on my Ts and button downs, still trying to find middle ground.
Also, another important thing is fit, I am a short guy around 5.7′, it is just super lame to wear low rise because it makes it look like I have no legs. So I am throwing out all my Diesels and getting 7 for all mankind mid rise jeans
I shop at 3 different Macy’s here in the DC area. They all have different stuff, so when I can’t find something at 1 store I go to the other one.
